LabEQA.com is the IQLS portal used for the management of our EQA programmes.

Richard Lepec

EQA is one component of quality assurance (QA), which ensures that tests are performed accurately, results are comparable and reproducible, and errors are detected and corrected to avoid adverse outcomes. EQA can consist of:
• On-site evaluation of laboratories by standardized techniques
• Panel testing, also called proficiency testing
• Rechecking of pathological materials/slides

IQLS is currently proposing the 5 following proficiency testing schemes:
• Tuberculosis 1 (fluorescence microscopy, identification and DST)
• Tuberculosis 2 (Ziehl-Nielsen microscopy)
• Tuberculosis 3 (GeneXpert EQA scheme)
• Dengue and Chikungunya (PCR determination on blood spots)
• Malaria 1 (routine light microscopy)
Another scheme for Leptospira diagnosis is currently being prepared

Participating laboratories analyze the provided specimens provided using the recommended methods and report results back to the organizer. The organizer (IQLS) evaluates the results, assigns a score to each participating laboratory, and communicates the scores and explanatory comments.

Tropical Disease Foundation

For each survey two types of reports are provided:
• General report of all participating laboratory results
• Unique, laboratory specific, report: findings and recommendations (confidential)

The surveys are identical for all participating laboratories, and the specimens simulate real clinical samples (simulated sputums, simulated blood spots, slides simulating routine smears, etc.) IQLS can organize customized and dedicated schemes for any number of participating laboratories, especially in the fields of infectious diseases (microscopy, bacteriology, PCR, mycobacteriology, parasitology, serology, etc.). Each of these schemes is supported by a dedicated online interface allowing easy survey management, grading and report production.

A user manual of the interface is provided to each participant, along with his login identifiers.
